Conversation Topics

It's totally understandable to not know what to write to your elder pen-pal, so here are some topics and tips:

Topics

1. Write about your interests: What do you like to do in your free time? Which subjects do you love to learn about? Maybe write about a similar interest between you and your pen-pal or why you wanted to match with that person.

2. Tell your pen-pal about your closest relationships: Do you have a best friend? What do you like to talk about with that person? Are you close with your sibling(s) and/or parents? Do you have a pet? How do you spend time with them?

Tips

1. Don't write too much. It can be very easy to start rambling, but write like you're having a conversation with your pen-pal. You don't have to tell them everything immediately. Take the time to learn more about your friend and their interests.

2. Don't write too little. The only way you can form a meaningful connection with your pal is if you are willing to put effort.

3. Schedule in-person visits or virtual meetings. It is optional to do so and it's only possible if both you and your pal consent, but we recommend it. It's much easier to make more personal and meaningful relationships if you can talk face-to-face.
